I get asked the same questions about my appearance on Dragons's Den all the time, so I thought I'd do a post here giving you a little look behind the scenes.

How did you get on the show?

We got hit up by a show researcher on our Instagram asking if we'd be interested in having a chat to find out more. We had a call with them and gave them some information on the business and the discussions rolled on from there.

How long did it take from contact to filming then airing?

It's a long process, several months from contact to filming, and in between there's lots of calls, paperwork, discussions and an audition. We filmed in June 2024 and aired on the 13th Feb.

How far in advance do you know about your air date?

We were only given 2 weeks notice for our air date.  Everything has to be kept under wraps so there's no spoilers leaked in advance, it's all top secret right to the end.

Did you sell a lot when the show aired?

Yes! It went mad the night we aired and the following couple of weeks while people watched on catch up.  Our Dragons, Deborah and Peter, have obviously been doing this for 20+ years, so they were able to give us an idea of what to expect, but bear in mind we'd only have 2 weeks notice when we'd air, so we had to roll the dice on when we'd start stocking up on inventory and hiring extra staff to get us through the big hump.  Luckily it worked out perfect!

Do you meet the Dragons before you go in the Den?

No! I didn't meet them in advance, and they don't know anything about the person who is about to walk through the elevator doors until they open.  A screen was placed in front of my display, then the Dragons come in and take their seats.  The screen is removed and they have 1 minute to look at what's in front of them, then the elevator doors open, and I come out.

How did it feel when the elevator doors opened?

It was a very surreal experience. One minute I'm on my own in the elevator and the next thing the doors open and there's all the Dragons just sitting there and I'm right on the set of Dragons' Den.  I'd rehearsed my pitch 300 times, to the point where my wife couldn't listen to it anymore.  For the months prior to filming, I'd wake up each morning, walk into our living room and start saying "I'm Del from Spudos, and we're asking for..." - and by the end my wife was like "WOULD YOU SHUT UP!".

But the moment the elevator doors opened, I couldn't remember my own name let alone my 2 minute pitch!  Once I walked out into the Den and took my spot, my memory luckily came back and I kicked off my pitch.

Did everything go through with Deborah and Peter?

Yes, our deal went through and we're very happy with our new investors!
